Welcome to LL's Mosaics
How did I come to mosaics?
When studying art at college, I loved to paint, but never thought about mosaics. Leaving school I left the creativity behind, but all through my life I had the desire to paint, draw and create something.
In my later years, I enrolled in a mixed media class and dabbled with oil and watercolour painting, charcoal drawing and pastels. Still my desire was not satisfied. Whilst shopping one day, I happened upon a handcrafts store that also ran classes in various crafts, one of which was mosaic.
That was six years ago. Today I am producing mosaics and learning new skills each time. I now have a wonderful network of fellow mosaic artists through the Mosaic Association of Australia and New Zealand (MAANZ). Our meetings are an incubator for ideas and techniques.
I have exhibited three times at MAANZ Exhibtions. Last year I sold some of my work. This is very exciting and encouraging that someone other than family and friends appreciated my handiwork.
I lose myself in the studio for hours, sometimes just sitting there and thinking about another project even though I have others on the board. I am passionate about glass and am now practicing in fused and slumped glass and including these new media into my mosaics.
My mosaic style is constantly evolving. As ideas flow I find myself translating them into a mosaic. We have a saying around our house not to stand still too long or you will be covered in tesserae.
I have also ventured into the world of Mixed Media and Digital Art and I hope you like my work. This is a fascinating medium where almost anything goes.
And so, my passion and passage through the world of mosaic and glass and other art forms continues....
